Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Keegan K — 12 Jan 2014
This was definitely a fun movie, especially if you enjoy soul music. Based on a true story, "The Sapphires" is the tale of four aboriginal girls who formed a soul group to entertain American troops in Vietnam. Not only did they entertain the troops, they entertained me. It was fun seeing a movie that showed the struggle these women had with their particular race. It was not always easy for them. And the four girls working together, was a fun struggle to watch. The main character was stubborn and talkative and always wanted her way. She clashed with the manager of the girls yet eventually they fell in love. It was also fun seeing the progression of the girls as they got better for their prime time role as a singing group. By the end of the movie, they were totally believable.
There seriously was so much to like about this movie. The characters were likable, they found soldiers to like on their journeys, the music was always fun to listen to, they had wonderful dance moves, and in general this movie just had a positive uplifting feeling.
This is definitely a movie that is worth seeing again anytime you want to hear some wonderful soul music.
