Review of The Sandlot (1993) by Donna E — 09 Jul 2010
This is one of my all time favorite movies. On the surface, it is entertaining, fun, hillarious and charming. Digging a little deeper, its a reflection of a far simpler time, both in culture and in life.
There is something remarkable in the capturing of childhood on film, when the junkyard dog was the scariest thing you could imagine. It captures the endless summer days of childhood, and the wonderment of boyhood.
As a baseball lover, the movie echoes back to the golden time of Americas past time, and its place in a long extinct society. Great fun for the kid in everyone, and nostalgia for the adult in everyone.
