Review of The Sandlot (1993) by Joseph E — 22 Jul 2013
"The Sandlot" (1993) is a feel good baseball film with friendship and courage. In the tradition of "Stand By Me' follows a young boy named Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) who just moved to a new town with his mother and his stepfather and he wants to join a rowdy baseball team in the sandlot.
The only problem was, he doesn't know how to catch a baseball and his parents was too busy teach him. After getting a black eye from catching the ball that his stepfather teach, he meets a young teenager named Ben Rodriguez (who was the leader of The Sandlot kids).
Once he finally joins the team, despite of failing the first time, kids are still making fun of him until Scotty made the catch of the ball. Things were alot better for him until, a big, mean giant gorilla dog (that was rumored that he ate one kid) lives next door of a blind neighbor who was a former baseball player.
It's not only a baseball movie, is a coming of age story that has lots of nostalgic values and very hilarious moments, especially the characters of Ham Porter, Squints, Yeah-Yeah, and a sexy lifeguard named Wendy Peppercorn.
It has a great cast such as James Earl Jones, Denis Leary, Karen Allen, and Patrick Renna. If you love baseball and comedy for the whole family, this is the one that you should watch! It's fun!
