Review of The Sandlot (1993) by Thomas P — 02 Sep 2013
Nostalgia, camaraderie, and a big heart - I enjoyed this more and felt it had a bigger impact on me than the more popular Stand By Me.
It hinted at League Of Their Own, with the perspective and long view, and the colorful characters were a hoot just as well. I'm not sure it reaches across to females as much as League crosses to males, but the elements of fond memories are warmly felt here.
Great one-liners too.
The fact that it's a fantasy married with the hazy glow of nostalgia makes it funny, silly, and still wonderfully heart-felt.
4 soft, worn mitts out of 5.
