Review of The Sandlot (1993) by Jay L — 23 Jan 2011
"You're killin' me Smalls!".
A classic. A personal childhood favorite that has stood the test of time perfectly. The Sandlot is a brilliant film that's just as much about the best parts of childhood as it is baseball. It's a tribute to Americas favorite past time, and the elements of the game that make it so beloved by so many. Its not only one of the best childhood sports films ever made, it one of the best sports film ever made period. Top notch entertainment about the joys of childhood and baseball.
Join the gang, Smalls, Squints, Benny, Ham, Yea-Yea, Timmy and Tommy, as they try to solve the biggest "pickle" of their entire lives. Smalls is the new kid in town and just trying to fit in with the local neighborhood kids. In doing so he learns the game of baseball, and becomes part of their team. Until one unfaithful day that Smalls hit his step-father's signed Babe Ruth ball into the junk yard behind their field. The group embarks on a perilous set of plans to try to get the ball back before "the beast" in the junkyard eats it. A classic story that is guaranteed to entertain the entire family. A whimsical and feel good comedy that has laughs, heart, and plenty of baseball lore. In watching the Sandlot, memories of ones own childhood experiences will come to the surface...and that in my opinion is priceless.
"Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.".
