Review of The Salton Sea (2002) by Meg A — 07 Jun 2007
A brutal, and at times darkly funny crime drama about how deep a man will go to satisfy his need for vengeance. At the heart of this film is Val Kilmer in a role unlike any in his filmography. The supporting cast, Deborah Kara Unger and Peter Sarsgaard in particular make the piece more well-rounded and give the lead character more depth.
Also of note is Thomas Newman's haunting score, which goes from a grungy funk vibe to the more calm piano motifs familiar from his other work. The film, as a total package, comes highly recommended.
