Review of The Salton Sea (2002) by Mikey P — 30 Sep 2007
Not exactly a popular favourite, but Val Kilmer does a really great job of playing a character who is so wrapped up in an alternate identity that he no longer knows who he really is. The scenes of drug binges seem remarkably realistic and the entire thing is full of humour while remaining very dark and threatening.
The character of Pooh Bear is at once absurd and totally threatening. The only drawback is a recurring sentimentality that is bit too over the top for my tastes and doesn't fit with the rest of the film.
I still love it and have watched it quite a few times.
