Review of The Salton Sea (2002) by Daniel S — 17 Aug 2008
This movie is like a bastard mix of three other movies all rolled into 1. You have elements of Spun and Memento (sort of), and a little Last House on the Left, more or less. I have always thought that Val Kilmer is a great actor and his performance is very strong in this movie.
I have to tell you that Vincent D'Onofrio does steal the show. I thought his character was being played by Paul Giamatti at first, then I recognized him. I had forgotten that his name was on the box.
Decent support by Adam Goldberg and Luis Guzman fill the movie up to make it very entertaining. You don't figure out the plot in the first 20 minutes and you stay focused on the story, at least I did.
I would definitely check it out if you see it on cable or at a discount bin somewhere. The plot has been played out before, to a certain extent, but still fresh enough to keep you entertained through the whole picture.
Favorite moment was the JFK pigeon assassination.
