Review of The Saint's Double Trouble (1940) by Lauren H — 23 Oct 2010
Not the best of George Sanders incarnations as the titular Saint, Simon Templar, but enjoyable for what it is. Unfortunately, little is made out of Sanders playing dual roles: one the real Saint, the other a jewel thief who happens to, uh, greatly resemble the Saint.
Bela Lugosi has an odd cameo as a fellow criminal, and all the supporting players are good character actors, so it isn't particularly painful to watch. The plot, as with most of the Saint movies, is almost non-existent.
You're really there to enjoy Sanders elongating his vowels.
