Review of The Safety of Objects (2002) by Leigh R — 23 Jul 2009
A really honest but slow paced observation of how futile and repetitive suburban existence can become. The title hits the nail on the head, each character here has an overwhelming obsession with either an object or something material, but these individual things and the lives these people live all co-exist and are a result of one incident.
If you enjoy the idea and thought behind it then you will thoroughly enjoy this movie, this has a lot to offer for those looking for a film that plays its cards subliminally. This is tied quite neatly together, but its not something for everyone.
This is no feel good movie. Its not badly put together, the obvious stand out is Glenn Close who is great in this, the rest of characters are good but some are more interesting than others. Its also one of those films filled with faces you'll recognise from TV and films of recent past.
I think its flaw is being too serious, which is commendable, however films like this need some comedy even if its satirical to keep the mood balanced.
