Review of The Saddest Music in the World (2003) by Ellen L — 07 Jan 2005
There's no doubt The Saddest Music in the World is one of the most visionary, wild fantasies made in recent memory. It's got a wonderful grainy style that takes us back to another time or place, that maybe didn't really exist, but it sure feels like it. It's strangely funny and strangely sad. But at the same time, it feels very distant. It's almost as if it feels like it doesn't have a need for an audience and just exists for what it is, to be wildly weird. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's hard to really enjoy what you're watching with that feeling.
