Review of The Sacrifice (1986) by Matthew L — 21 Jul 2010
Although replete with astonishing dream imagery, The Sacrifice somehow doesn't seize control of my brain in the way same as Stalker, Rublev, or Nostalghia. To me the characters that people this world are among Tarkovsky's most opaque.
And the hysterical woman routine wears thin on fourth or fifth outing. Nonetheless, it is perhaps his most thematically precise work.
