Review of The Sacrament (2014) by Johnny T — 02 May 2014
More of a thriller than horror, with West's usual slow burn and tension-building. The end seems to go on forever and is more conventional than his other movies. I'm not sure if this movie is meant to be a cautionary tale or if it is a set piece that ended up constraining the story.
One of the best parts of the movie is the interview of the group's leader. Very chilling.
After the movie I read that it was a fictionalization of the Jonestown Massacre, an event I didn't know much about.
