Review of The Running Man (1987) by Gordon C — 23 Jun 2009

My DVD edition of this film is rather unusual in that it contains a couple of special features which are actually more interesting than the movie itself. There's a documentary on the cultural impact of Reality TV, and another on the erosion of civil liberties in US legislation post 9/11.

Arnie's character is of course made out to be the champion of human rights, but it's interesting that whereas he declines to kill one of the stalkers who has been rendered helpless, he shows no compunction about dispatching the unarmed Killian at the end of the film. Maybe the right to due process got lost somewhere along the way.
