Review of The Running Man (1987) by Darrell P — 16 Apr 2012
Neither as dumb nor as exciting as I remembered it, The Running Man is scarier for the decades since its release. No longer are the ideas it presents as purely fantastic, with civil liberties consistently debated and reality television consistently topping the charts. The film even mentions depletion of oil, and takes place in a society that is overpopulated and all but completely globalized.
But that's not really what it's about , is it? At the end of the day, Arnold delivers the goods, with his classic one-liners and utterly engaging physical performance reminding any modern viewer once again that the only place we can still see large scale, unapologetic, violent action is on home video.
