Review of The Running Man (1987) by Al M — 14 May 2014
Rather loosely based on Stephen King's (Richard Bachman's) eponymous novella, The Running Man remains a highlight of 80s sci-fi/action cinema in all its brutally cheesy hilarity. A funny and barbed (if somewhat derivative) satire of our consumerist, media-obsessed culture, The Running Man proves to be rather prescient of our reality-television society.
While it is far from being truly intelligent, it still manages to be somewhat clever while also being totally fucking bad-ass in a way that was only possible in the 80s.
