Review of The Rundown (2003) by Jordon H — 07 Jul 2010
The rundown/Welcome to the jungle.
Bearing in mind this film was made at the hight of my manlove for dwayne "the rock" johnson it was hard to see how it could have failed as a movie. and at the time it hadnt, my manlove for the rock was intact and as strong as ever.
So after 7 years I would sit down hoping to rekindle my love of the rock and send me back to the teary eyed boy that has just watched the rock loose his title to stone cold. to my disgust this time it didnt do it. instead all I managed to do was pick faults and laugh hysterically at the ridiculous fight scenes.
So onto the fight scenes, the first of which in sense is not all that bad, the usual story of 1v6 and not so suprisingly the 1 wins, although the physics of the fight were utterly beleivable. a concept which is to be blown out of the water by the following figh scenes. The next fight scene, which I can liken only to a scene from crouchng tiger hidden dragon. is one step to far in the action scale, too silly to be serious and too serious a film to have these ridiculous wire fights.
So onto the actors, starting with the central character the rock himself. im sure the rock has some acting capability but poor script and forced humour let the guy down here. but thats not to say it was a bad perormance him. I and most people got what they expected from him, tough, likeable and above all its THE ROCK!. seann willam scott delivers his usual comedy that is enough to carry him through and still come out the other side a respectable actor. christoper walken wades in with perhaps the most convincing role of the film as hatcher, the dictator of a small mining village in brazil. he delivers a few amusing one liners and pulls off the tyical villain very well.
All in all not a terrible movie, but not a great one either. its not going to blow your socks off but the boedom isnt going to get them either. maybe a hint of pootang pie?
6/10.
