Review of The Rundown (2003) by Ellie D — 31 Mar 2012
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE! IT'S ALL FUN AND... I hate that stupid song.
It's a good stylish action flick with a lot of style and a good sense of humor...Plus it's got Chris Walken in the jungle!
The Story: Trying to even things out between himself and a mob boss, Beck is sent to the amazon to find someone...That someone just happens to be the boss' son, and also happens to be hot on the trail of an ancient treasure...There's a decent amount of plot twists here and there, with a healthy amount of sleek stylish imagery. It moves quickly from one place to another, as they travel from numerous locales, and meet an assortment of interesting characters. The story, while it just boils down to a big man trying to get a little man out of the jungle, is still fun and entertaining.
The Cast: The Rock, Seann William Scott, Christopher Walken...The Rock...This man never fails to impress me. I hate to admit that when I first heard that he was going into acting, I was skeptical, I thought he'd be all action and bad dialogue. But I've yet to see him in a bad movie. He of course plays the part of the Beck, the man hired to go to the jungle to get the son of a dangerous mob boss. He's a good character, a little on the generic side, but that's only because the character was generic on paper. His performance surpasses the usual action star, and makes even the most ordinary action script hero great. Sean William Scott, is the elusive son of the mob. He's funny here, surprisingly funny. I didn't have high expectations for him, but he makes his character believable, with a humorous and convincing performance. Christopher Walken, well you're probably thinking, Chris Walken is the mob boss he's the one that hired Beck to get his son. And if you're thinking that, than you're wrong! Hahahahaha, I had ya there for a second didn't I, you really thought he was the boss didn't you? I'm just too damn good...He's the man stopping Beck from getting what he was sent for. He pretty much owns the jungle. He makes for a good villain as usual but you don't see as much of him as you'd expect. I mean it's Chris Walken, couldn't he have been in more of the movie? Either way, he does great as the villain.
One to Five Scale: 4.
Great action, good acting, interesting location, and a ton of style. This one's a great way to spend an afternoon for any fan of action flicks. I would even say it's worth the price of admission to buy it, as you'll more than likely want to watch it more than once. That's what entertainment is all about.
Tyler.
