Review of The Runaways (2010) by Carolyn G — 12 Nov 2010
While very energetically and entertainingly filmed by Floria Sigismondi, there isn't really much of a story here. We are entertained, but we feel the bares bones of the script. The acting, while not horrible (Stewart really did try to do justice to Joan Jett), is nothing to really hold a candle to, except for maybe Michael Shannon who steals every scene he's in.
He is the most entertaining part of the film. Ultimately forgettable, but I did appreciate the detail to which they tried to bring these time periods back to life. By no means a creative disaster, but it doesn't come close to knocking it out of the park either.
