Review of The Runaways (2010) by Jose M — 06 Dec 2010
If I saw this a few years back (high school days) I would have been red for a week. The Runaways is biopic of an teenage girl band that become huge in the 70s... in Japan at least. They rock harder than any of the boy rock band and are ridiculed since girls back then weren't suppose to rock back then.
The story takes a close look between the relationship of Cherry Currie and Joan Jett as the band forms under Kim Fowley and collapses once the usual problems of a rock band are shown. The flick falls into Hollywood formulas a few times, but it solid nonetheless and music is pretty good too.
It's weird to see Dakota Fanning all grown up, but she's wonderful here. As for Kristen Stewart, she's great in this film as rock goddess Joan Jett although she gets a lot of gruff for starting in the series of Twilight.
