Review of The Runaways (2010) by Rod O — 10 Feb 2011
I'm not some sort of controlling assmaster, but when my husband offered to watch this movie with me, I told him no, it would make me uncomfortable watching him drool all over Dakota Fanning dressed in skimpy clothes, posing as Cherie Currie.
I wasn't worried as much about Kristen Smith, since she's a notorious ice queen with the personality range of a frozen pea.
So I watched the Runaways alone, after all, and for half of the movie being entertaining, the other half felt like a project shrouded in holy preservation. How in the world did the themes of bisexual exploration, heavy drug use and feminist anger rock get played out like an after school special?
If this movie were a mixed drink, it'd be a watered down whisky and cherry coke drank extra slow through a straw. In other words it was so deluded and cute, that now my whole body feels like a cavity begging for an extraction by the dentist.
Aside from that, I really liked the music.
