Review of The Runaways (2010) by Kyle S — 17 Feb 2011
Dakota Fanning is intolerable and impossible to take seriously. I probably could have through-and-through loved this movie were it not for her gaudy, God-awful insistence on being the (likely very Currie-like) histrionic centerpiece.
Even fair Bella played just outside of her self-typecast boundaries to give a sort of vulnerable, dangerous intensity to Jett. As a film, its utterly pitiful lack of narrative strength is remedied, to an extent, by a handful of visually praiseworthy atmosphere and an awesome, awesome soundtrack.
Start with the same punk-rock indignation I did, leave with aggressive ambivalence.
