Review of The Runaways (2010) by Nick B — 17 Dec 2011
Sigismondi captures the time and more importantly the energy of these women and that's why 'The Runaways' works. It's also helped a great deal by surprisingly fantastic performances from Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart.
Michael Shannon is great but when hasn't he been? It does suffer from two big flaws. The first is it follows the standard music biopic formula: Rags, Riches, Fall, Rise, Credits. And it only follows Cherie Currie and Joan Jett with Kim Fowley filling in the blanks.
The rest of the band was just as interesting and they're sadly avoided. Also big ups to the girls for actually singing the songs, not too shabby.
