Review of The Runaways (2010) by Jared C — 25 Jan 2012
Most biographical films on rising bands in the past have always been cliched no matter how true the story is. First you find the talent, then you come up with the name of the band and your first song. You play at gigs, popularity starts to come in, you're playing at bigger gigs and then the drugs, sex and publicity starts taking over.
While all this may sound like a cliche story plot, be assured it is not boring. There have been many biographical films on singing sensations and bands Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Ray Charles and now the Runaways which sparked a new popular icon in the late 70's to the 80's is what makes the Runaways so big.
Kristen Stewart plays Joan Jett the electric guitarist who was the tomboyish rebel who loved to be in a band and Dakota Fanning plays Cherie Currie the pretty blonde with a dark streak that soon takes over the whole praise for the band.
Both are the top two stars in this film, while . young they hold the film completely together portraying Joan and Currie. The film is superb and entertaining to watch.
