Review of The Runaways (2010) by Greg L — 20 Jan 2013
An enjoyable enough romp through The Runaways story, bolstered by the fact that it's based upon Cherie Currie's own experiences (from her book, "Neon Angel"), and some striking performances - some surprisingly so (Fanning & Stewart both throw off the shackles of formula here), others more expectedly so (Michael Shannon has even drawn praise from Kim Fowley himself, for his role).
For a more balanced version of the entire tale, though, I would temper this movie with the 2004 documentary, "Edgeplay", which gives a greater voice to the other members of the band, and provides even more of the factual backstory - a great double-bill for a night in, perhaps?
