Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by David Ray G — 13 Mar 2012
I sort of enjoyed this, and I didn't expect to. Johnny Depp was born to play a drunk, and this movie here just proves it. I also enjoyed Amber Heard, who I was never a fan of.
Funny, piquant and totally entertaining. I had a great time during it, and almost died laughing during the scene where Moburg asks Paul if "it's the clap" and Paul responds, "it's a standing ovation." Smartly-written screenplay, and a good adaptation of a moderately interesting book. Nothing extraordinary, but great fun nonetheless. Watch it for Depp and for Puerto Rico.
