Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Michael E — 01 Dec 2012
I heard a lot of bad reviews about this film before I saw it. I was more than happily surprised by how good it was though. The setting that is created by the cinematography, culture, and history is captivating, along with the great actors that were chosen to portray the roles of the characters.
I can see why a lot of people don't like this film due to a possible lack of structure in the story, but that is actually what I enjoy the most. These are journalist writing about their experiences they get thrown into or assigned.
They want to be important in it but most times they are just the observers and writers, nothing more. Its up to the public; which as they state are usually interested in other things. It isn't supposed to have a structure its just life being described.
It doesn't always have a happy ending point. Sometimes they just move on to the next story.
