Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by George T — 05 Feb 2008
Painful, awful, horrible, disturbing- the anti-Hollywood teen movie. I'm a big fan of Easton Ellis and Roger Avery, so to have a film combining the genius of the two should be a major event for me- but despite the multiple storytelling 'tricks' I still doubt my affection for this film.
The casting is inspired- a real mix of talented names and teen idols- but every time I see the film, I think that an approach as was taken for "The Last Kiss" would have suited the text more appropriately.
It just goes to show how difficult it is to film an Easton Ellis shooting script- and although I have immense hopes for Avery on 'Glamorama', I anticipate another general faliure. Killing Zoe seems so long ago.
