A downright nihilistic portrayal of college life thanks to Avary's adaptation of Easton's novel. There are no sympathetic characters for one to allign one's self with in this, but the film seems viciously intent on keeping you from having a sunny happy time. Van Der Beek bucks his TV star persona and does quite a fine job at....well...seeming like he's nuts. It contains some great music choices too.
Ultimately just as Van Der Beek's character is the little brother to Christain Bale's Patrick Bateman, this doesn't quite match up to the scathingly satirical American Psycho, which came several years before.
