Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by Chris E — 24 May 2008
I'm working my way through all of bret easton ellis's novels so after i'd finished this one I thought id check out the movie. Really different to the book but just as good. Interesting editing.
I liked the split screen, gimmicks like that usually annoy me in films but I felt this really captured the essence of lauren and sean's relationship (or lack thereof.) Obviosuly the scene everyone talks about was the suicide which did shock me as its treated in just an offhand way in the book.
but really well done and extremely moving. probably the closest i'll ever be to knowing how it feels to 'feel' death. I was right there with her, grabbing my wrists! avery's great. can't wait for glamorama now.
