Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by Naische F — 22 Jun 2008
Caught this one a few years back and it didn't really leave an impression.. But saw it again, and was really entertained. From the author of 'American Psycho' comes the story of Patrick Bateman's younger brother Sean Bateman at University.
. Wonderful performances from the cast including an early Jessica Biel and Kate Bosworth. However, despite the good script and performances, it seemed that the acting range was limited given the calibre of the stars (and not the script) and the standard would've surely risen had more established stars taken this project over.
Interesting cameos throughout and a wonderful nostalgic 1980s soundtrack, although I'm not sure if this is a 1980s movie.. I did find the concept of attraction and not noticing those around us who are attracted to us an interesting concept and theme of the film.
Not really a classic like 'American Psycho' starring Christian Bale, but still worth a look even if it may seem choppy and uneven at times.
