Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by Tom G — 07 Oct 2008
Some of the filming was very clever in this film, the time lapse photography and the random rewinding scenes were fantastic, but a little over used.
I've not read the book so i'm not sure how it compares to the original story but the characters were very much typical of most teen flicks, however this is a much more somber and nihilistic film than any high school teen movie. The assumption that all everyone in the film does and wants is drugs, have sex, drink and fight seems a little far fetched.
The plot is strong and the characters though contrived are all very easy to realte to in parts.
The best sequence is when the character Victor is introduced, his monologue about travelling Europe is excellent. This aside the film plods along with little to no effect.
