Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by Matthew T — 08 Dec 2008
I can see why someone wouldn't like this movie. Bret Easton Ellis' hedonistic yet nihilistic characters prevent the film from having a normal arch complete with conflict, climax and ultimately a payoff.
Adding fuel to the fire is Avery's direction that is anything but conventional and certainly could be off putting to some but in my opinion does well at interpreting Ellis' awesome novel.
