The Ruins ditches the cliches of most common horror movies in that it doesn't focus on some sort of psychopathic killer and instead turns to the jungle and its mysteries to shock and fascinate us. Once the movie gets under way, you definitely want to see more.
I felt that the focus shifted from suspense to cliche gore at some points, but great acting propels the movie forward. I would have given it a higher rating if it wasn't for the predictable ending.
