Review of The Ruins (2008) by Andrew W — 16 May 2010
I'm always keen on different ideas. A group of youngsters head off to somewhere remote, then fall foul of a ruthless killer that picks them off one at a time. The surprise is the nature of the killer! The moment when they finally locate the ringing "telephone" is brilliant.
I don't want to go into too much detail here as some of you may not have seen this film and I don't want to spoil it for you! The ending is left fairly open, which suggests a potential sequel, and plenty of questions are left unanswered for us to consider. The moral of the story is clear - when you explore somewhere, it's a good idea to be prepared (take a first aid kit and plenty of water, folks) and also to speak the local language.
