Review of The Ruins (2008) by Lenny W — 03 Jul 2009
Two couples embark on a deadly adventure among ancient Mayan ruins in this crappy movie. In the beginning of the film, the couples just happen to meet a German guy, and after about two minutes of forced dialogue they agree to accompany him on an archeological dig which turns out to be something completely different and more deadly than they could ever imagine.
The special effects are not that good, and the actors are just decent. Main man Jonathan Tucker speaks like Tobey Maguire and looks a little bit like Christian Bale, but is nowhere as good as either. Additionally, the girls' place in the script is not much more than being commanded by the men and occasionally screaming and crying.
Not one for feminists in other words, and come to think of it, not one for must of us.
