Review of The Ruins (2008) by Adam D — 06 Apr 2011
The story has been told before, all we're really seeing here is a replacement evil entity to creep under the skin. The Cave... The Descent... group of friends tackle something cool, along the way they're warned of the evil and dangers that lie ahead, friends continue on, evil slowly shows itself, friends get picked off one by one, evil still continues to win, last friend outsmarts evil and escapes, evil has last laugh within last 60 seconds of movie, 5 second hint at a possible sequel IF it's a hit at the box-office. ...it's not. movie ends. I DO have to give credit to the shock value of the visual effect prosthetics and "cut" scenes. those deserve two vined thumbs up in realistic appearance.
Pointblank... if you have seen The Cave and The Descent and enjoyed both, you should still see this movie. Even though the first two ARE better, this is at least worth a watch.
