Review of The Ruins (2008) by Carmen A — 08 Aug 2012
The premise might seem a little silly...but somehow, strangely, it works and even compels. That is not to say the film is without its flaws. The film adaption has absolutely nothing on the bleak and terrifying novel but it is a solid effort.
The acting is particularly good, especially Laura Ramsey as Stacy (the film's saving grace), who will chill you to the bone with her portrayal of a descent into complete hysteria and madness. The Ruins is at its best when it delves into body horror.
One huge component that was lost in the translation from book to film was the heat and starvation factor...they barely touch on it in the film.
