Review of The Rugrats Movie (1998) by Melinda Y — 30 May 2007
I enjoyed this show as a kid, and I still appreciate the show's crude animation for good-humoredly trying to represent what might be an infant's worldview. This film throws out EVERYTHING that gave the show its lovable charm.
There is no skewed perspective here. Instead, the movie lifts its quirky infant characters from the show, and places them in an adult world full of cougars and vindictive circus monkeys. Rather than watching through their eyes, we're watching them from an adult's perspective.
And where's the fun in that?
