Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Lance S — 07 Dec 2010
Stephanie's Favourite Movies: The Royal Tenenbaums.
This movie features the next best ensemble cast in the twenty-first century, firsted only by Little Miss Sunshine. I can't decide what actor did better in their performance. Every single actor in this movie did a fantastic job and there wasn't a single cast member that failed their job. Special shout-outs go to Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Luke Wilson for their roles as Royal, Margot, and Richie Tenenbaum respectively.
I love Wes Anderson's take on movies. He proves that a movie doesn't have to have explosions, gunfights, or naked women to be good. His movies are incredibly wordy and they show dysfunction very well, in this case, an incredibly dysfunctional family who all have their own personal demons to battle while trying to come together as a whole.
If you haven't seen this movie, I urge you to get in your car, drive to blockbuster, and rent it NOW. Definitely on the list of movies you need to see before you die. I would not recommend this to children however because (*spoiler alert*) there is a suicide attempt and a few swears.
