Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Dan L — 13 Jun 2012
A step forward from his first two ventures, Anderson takes his unmistakable and whimsical style to a new level; The Tenenbaums are strikingly absorbing, and not just for their idiosyncrasies. But it seems that Anderson does rely on each character's peculiarities, as if he were afraid that their natural development might be inadequate, and this crutch is the film's largest shortcoming.
