My review of The Rover:

The Rover is about a man(Guy Pearce) who gets his car stolen and goes on a mission to get it back, on the way he recruits the brother of one the thieves(Robert Pattinson). Now I rode my bike 10 miles and back in 100F Degree weather just to see this film. Was it worth it? Absolutely, this film is truly Best Picture caliber. Guy Pearce is top notch as you believe this really is a man with nothing left to lose. Yet, you are able to relate to him as it shows that he truly wants this car back, because we all have that item that we always want to hang on to. His character is like Joel from The Last Of Us if Joel was more detached from the world and barely spoke. Now while Guy Pearce gives a great performance, the one who steals the show is the golden vampire himself, Robert Pattinson. After seeing this, I take back every bad thing I said about him being in the Twilight films, I was truly in awe of his performance. His character, Ray, is really the most likeable out of all the characters, because he's really like this innocent child inside. There's this one scene in the film involving him and Guy Pearce, and as I was watching him perform, it felt like I was watching a six year old show the drawings he made at school to his dad. Except instead of him saying, "Hey daddy, look what I drew at school," it's...well, you have to see the film for yourself. I don't know if Robert Pattinson can get nominated for an Oscar this early in the movie season, but he definitely deserves one. The film is directed by David Michod(Animal Kingdom), this is the first film I've seen of his, but the way he constructed this film is nicely done. With some long shots, brisk pace, gritty settings, and a dark musical score, he's one of the best new directors out there. Now this is not a film for everyone, if you want a nice friendly film you and your family and friends can enjoy, I suggest you watch How To Train Your Dragon 2. However, if you are a person who doesn't upchuck easily and likes gritty filmmaking, are a cinephile like me, or are one of those people who goes to therapy once a week while taking antidepressants that don't work, this is a film you'll want to see.
