Review of The Rover (2014) by Stratocastic J — 21 Jun 2014
This film left me stunned and emotional and not at all in the way that I thought it would. I caught on about half way in just what was likely Eric's final task that he would not leave undone, but I didn't expect as much blood to be shed in the course of the film. It surprised me, in a good way.
Guy Pearce is phenomenal as the broken-beyond-caring loner who slowly and surely begins to give a damn about another human being. Rob Pattinson portrays the Southern, abandoned to die, half wit who surprisingly can be sharp as a tack when the mood strikes him. I did not expect to laugh during this film, but I did. I'm from the South here in the states. Pattinson nailed it!
David Michod surely must be smiling today, knowing that he paired up two incredible actors and the result was a film that leaves audiences in tears ... reeling.
In my movie going experience, it was similar to walking out of The Passion ... everyone was so dumbstruck, there was nothing left to say ... except "WOW".
Incredible film! oh ... and bye bye Edward Cullen ;D.
