Review of The Rover (2014) by Tyler R — 07 Jul 2014
The Rover written and directed by David Michod is a slow moving and intense character study punctuated with moments of unflinching violence. It starts 10 years after the collapse. What caused the collapse? We never find out but that doesn't matter because it's about the people who are affected by the collapse.
So it stars Guy Pearce as Eric he's a loner who stops to get a drink in a bar and then while he's drinking a car crash happens outside and the three guys who were in the crash decide to steal Eric's car and when they steal the car Eric is not happy and he goes after them but he first picks up Rey played by Robert Pattinson who is the younger brother of one of the thieves so Eric wants information on where the group is going then starts a road trip where these guys start to bond and Eric sort of takes Rey under his wing and it became a more thoughtful movie then I was expecting.
I thought it was going to be like Mad Max but it's more slow moving then that. But there are moments of violence and it is very intense because you expect violence to break out at any moment and even if it's slow moving it's also very intense and the violence is fast and bloody.
But this movie is more thoughtful then most post apocalyptic movies are.
