Review of The Rover (2014) by Ryan J — 31 Aug 2014
Guy Pearce plays a loner in the not too distant future, the world has suffered a major economic collapse, law is no more, violence and desolation reigns. Eric's car, his only possession he has left, is stolen by a gang and he finds they left behind one of their own, thought to be dead, Rey, a simple young man (played by Robert Pattinson) who is the brother of one of the thieves.
Eric forces Rey to help him track them down and get his car back. It's a silent, brutal film that lets its visuals do much of the talking, the dialogue is spoken sparingly and the violence is sporadic yet jarring.
I enjoyed the film but it will definitely divide audiences. Pearce and Pattinson are good and the South Australian countryside is beautiful.
