Review of The Rover (2014) by Lachlan D — 14 Sep 2014
Many critics have told a blatant lie about this film. It is not dull, boring or tedious. Yes the world these characters live in can be painstakingly dull at times...that's them. We don't have to live through it.
..I mean we experience their frustration sure but Michod doesn't actually make us sit through boredom, instead he uses this time to build tension and lets the audience in on an impending sense of destruction and catastrophe that the characters are completely oblivious to.
I think the pessimistic reviews have simply been I misunderstanding of the fact that this film has absolutely no camp. I say hallelujah...camp is never acceptable and there was too much of it in Mad Max 1 & 2, good films don't get me wrong but imprecise films.
The Rover is a well refined version of Mad Max but different enough so that we don't head in to all too familiar territory.
