Review of The Rover (2014) by Hayden H — 05 Nov 2014
In a world where the worst part of you becomes who you are, rules and laws vanish and outlaws and murders can become us all. The Rover may not be Mad Max action like or have Transformers CGI or hell, a hell of a story, yet what this film does have is surprising actions from Guy Pearce as he gives a performance that rivals Memento, which shows his true showcase of talent, and shows even Antiheroes have regrets and hearts while Robert Pattinson gives a career defining performance in a way you couldn't think was possible. These two obliviously have chemistrya and it shows and makes you attached till the end of their journey.
Now, The Rover will not be for everyone. So if you excepting Terminator Salvation explosions or Cannibals like the Road, please take you tired run of the mill story and leave. But if you have an open mind or love to see how the other side of movies live and enjoy slow delicious tension, come to dinner! The director knows how to give action when dued and how to build tension and bring enough drama to connect with the characters. Only thing I got to complain about is the ending of how it was done and how in 1:30 time frame, it felt kinda fast then slow then fast again. if it was 10 mins longer Im sure we could have a final shooting scene but it works just as good without it..
I give this a B+ for I liked it and will show it to others, but Im afraid how they may react not giving it a chance to beat down your walls and entertain you in a different but cool way.
