Review of The Rover (2014) by Steve W — 26 Nov 2014
Ten years after "The Collapse", a hardened loner named Eric stops for a drink at a bar. Thieves steal his car, and he wants it back. Teaming up with the head thief's wounded brother, they get into all sorts of bleak confrontations in the harsh and raw world of this post apocalyptic landscape.
Featuring two excellent performances, The Rover is a tour de force with visceral images and an incredible sense of unease and quiet. Director David Michod also did Animal Kingdom (2012), and his themes of human vs human and human vs nature is still very apparent.
I look forward to his next few films, as he is a stand out director with lots of potential.
