Review of The Rover (2014) by Luke E — 15 Jun 2014
David Michod's Follow-up to his highly successful debut feature 'Animal Kingdom' is a very different to truly insightful, engaging and beautifully shot film that is definitely worth the watch.
The world Michod has set up is full of violence, suspense and tension; set against a bleak yet mysterious backdrop of Australia transitioned to a third world mining state after a great economic collapse.
You'd almost think Mad Max when getting the big picture of this film, however 'The Rover' feels almost a lot more believable than Mad Max will ever come close to being. The film works both as a insightful road movie as well as a modern 'Western' thriller, while this film may not appeal to everyone it is definitely worth a look.
Its even become one of my favourite films of this year alone.
