Review of The Rover (2014) by Melody J — 22 Jun 2014
David Michod's debut, Animal Kingdom, was a modern classic and to follow that would always be hard. I believe he has succeeded with The Rover. This nihilistic film is short on plot but big on atmosphere.
Guy Pearce is amazing as the man trying to navigate through a futuristic world where law and order and decency are in short supply. The film might have been suited with a little more back story but it is full of impending doom and suspenseful violence.
Beautifully shot and wonderfully score this sparse, desolate film won't be for everyone but I was entranced through out.
